Minature Penal Cross
Minature Penal Cross made by Wild Goose Studio in Kinsale, Ireland. From 18th century Ireland, found in Kinsale - a fine example of the crucifixes so endeared by the Irish who lived under the Penal laws. Traditionally, the Penal Chaplets or Rosaries were made to be hidden in the hand and prayed for fear of being discovered during the persecutions the Irish suffered from the English during the 18th Century. 4" high. This Wild Goose Studio piece comes in cast iron or bronze. Cast iron pieces are for indoor use only. Bronze pieces can be placed outdoors where they will acquire a green patina over time.
